What’s a girl supposed to do to get crease-free clothes In rural Thailand in the 90s?

You’ll love this one: The other day Chef New was reminiscing about what an iron looked like in her family home back in the day. Oh boy! What a shocker! With no electricity in the remote home it was basically red hot charcoal that’s put inside a heavy metal iron-like contraption! And yes, from time-to-time some of her clothes did get burnt even though Mea (mum) rubbed the bottom with the banana leaves to try to stop it sticking to the clothes

Old Thai Iron

Chef New being into hair and beauty also used it as a hair straightener 😂

A brilliant example of the kind of ingenuity you’ll often find in rural communities across the world. Whether it’s ironing, food preservation, cooking techniques or even construction - rural communities can teach the city folk amongst us a thing or two
