A tribute to Khun Yai
Do you remember Khun Yai (KY) - our plant-based super nan? We lost her on Saturday night at the fine age of 88. A mighty character, who carried on working on the family farm until the age of 86 (totally ignoring the pleas of the family to stay home and take it easy)!
.....
Stubborn, cheeky, funny, hard-working and as strong as an Ox - we’re all indebted to KY and have learnt so much from her. Thank you, Khun Yai 🙏🏽
.....
Speaking of strength, at the time of Khun Yai’s passing (Saturday night) Chef New @chefnewkha had a packed restaurant to cook for in between grieving with the family on a Zoom call (an awful reality for many of us these days) and made the difficult decision to carry on cooking instead of disappointing you all 💔😍💪🏻
.....
On a lighter note, and I have to admit I roared with laughter on hearing this story, because it’s the cheeky Yai I remember so fondly, Chef New told me KY used to call her “horse mouth” as a child because she NEVER stopped eating (btw that’s never changed) 🤣 and oh my - Chef New’s impression of a grazing horse is quite something and cheered us all up a bit
.....
Rest in well-deserved peace KY and thank you for always making us smile. P.S sorry (not sorry) for bringing THAT bottle of Vodka to the village THAT day 🤣💕👼🎉
